2019 Chukar-O-Rama Winners

Another great club event and many thanks to everyone who came out and participated. Pat O’Kief chaired the event yet again and we appreciate his dedication to the club and this event.

Also, thanks to the great group of volunteers who donate their time and expertise to judge, plant birds, prepare and serve lunch and do all the little things required to make this annual club event a success.

CHUKAR-O-RAMA is coming Saturday, May 11, 2019!

It is that time of year again – our most popular (and competitive) club event – the Chukar-O-Rama!

Each contestant starts with their dog, 5 shells and 10 minutes on an open cheat-grass covered hill to hunt up 3 chukars (point, shoot, and retrieve).

Pat O’Kief is the chairman and needs volunteers for planting birds, 2-3 ATV’s, and help with food. Please reach out to Pat if you would like to volunteer or sign up for activities ahead of time.

Fees for the event: $40 for first dog, $35 for each dog after that. For example, if you have 2 dogs it will be $75 instead of $80 and so forth.

Please read all the rules and fill out an entry form to reserve your spot as soon as possible.

2019 Picnic Hunt Test Information

The 2019 Picnic Hunt Test will be starting on February 2nd at 9 am at the Spring Valley Ranch in the Eagle Foothills. Feel free to arrive early (8am/8:30am) to work with your dogs and sign up for the events. This event is NOT co-hosted with the Brittany Club this year. We will need more volunteers and more help this year.

Start Time: 9:00 AM

Location: Proceed North of Eagle on Eagle Road. Eagle Road turns into Willow Creek Road. Go beyond the subdivisions to E. Aerie Ln. Turn right on the frontage road just south of Aerie Ln and look for participants approximately ¼ mile to the east, on the lower road. There are two roads, the dirt road will be the one for the trials.

Entry Cost: $6.00 Junior, $10.00 Senior/Master—Pigeons provided Personal training pigeons cost: $6.00 ea. (Available only if not needed for events)
Coffee, morning nibbles and Lunch (donations welcome) will be provided by the GSPCI. Donations welcome- Cash or checks are acceptable.
Ribbons provided for qualifying scores. Use of dog training aids allowed (except for GSPCI members seeking annual Picnic Hunting Test Trophy).
Gunners must have a valid Idaho hunting license. Hunter orange vest required for participants in all shooting events.

What can you get out of participating?

  • Help your brag dog earn the annual GSPCI picnic hunt test traveling trophy.

  • Learn what is required to handle dogs in official AKC Hunting Tests.

  • Apprentice to judge, safely gun, and plant birds for field events and training.

  • Learn AKC Hunt Test performance standards for junior, senior and master level dogs.

  • Evaluate your dog for hunting and performance strengths and weakness and set objectives for your training program.

  • Meet new and old friends and swap dog adventures, hunting stories, and or tall tales.

  • Show off your new dog!

GSPCI Eleventh Annual Calendar Photo Contest

It’s that time of year! GSPCI members are invited to submit their dog photos for judging, (must own dog(s) in photo). Members can submit photos taken by other club members or professional photographers. Photos taken by professionals must be called out on entry form and signed by the professional. Photos taken by professionals other than club members will not be eligible for GSPCI prize placements.

Key Dates:
Submission Deadline: Midnight on Saturday October 6, 2018
Membership Vote: Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the General Meeting
Prizes: Awarded at the regular December club meeting.

Photos may be submitted by email or regular mail. It is the member’s responsibility to provide an 8 x 10 photo with member’s full name and address printed clearly on the back of print for all digital submissions. Members may bring the print to the meeting on Tuesday, October 9 as long as the emailed photograph is received by the deadline.

2018 Summer Picnic and Water Retrieve

Our annual Summer Picnic and Water Retrieve is scheduled for Saturday, June 23. Remember to bring you best shotgun for the skeet shooting competition, your best dog for the water retrieve, and lots of suntan lotion.

Shooting Start time: 9:00am, at Black Dog Clays, 7680 Vallejo Rd, Boise, ID 83709.
Picnic Start time: 12.00pm, at Christian Children’s Ranch 2421 W. Duck Alley Road Eagle, Idaho

Black Dog Clays – Directions: From the Boise area take the S Cole Rd exit off of I-84 and proceed south on S Cole Rd for approximately 4.5 miles to W. Vallejo Rd and turn right and proceed .4 miles to location. 

Christian Children’s Ranch – Directions: From the Black Dog Clays go east on W. Vallejo Rd to S. Cole Rd and turn left. Proceed north on S. Cole Rd 4.7 miles and merge onto I-84 W/US-30 W via the ramp on the left toward Nampa/City Center. Proceed 3.7 miles to the Eagle Rd exit and merge onto Eagle Rd. Proceed 5 miles on Eagle Rd to Chinden Blvd/US 20/26. Turn left and proceed on Chinden Blvd/US 20/26 for 3 miles to N. Linder Rd. Turn right on N. Linder Rd and proceed .7 miles to W. Duck Alley Rd. Turn left on W. Duck Alley Rd and proceed approximately 1 mile to event location. Watch for club signs.
